Donald W. Carter, 75, of Bridgewater formerly of Whitman died Thursday June 23rd in the Golden Living Center Oak Hill in Middleboro. He was the husband of Judith (Wood) Carter and they had been married 48 years.
Born in Brockton, he was the son of George H. and Roberta (Brown) Carter, having lived in Hanson and Whitman during his childhood years.
Upon graduating from Whitman High School in 1954, he enlisted in the United States Navy making 2 trips (Operation Deep II, III) on the USS Nespelan to Antartica.
He was an employee for 36 years at Brockton VA Medical Center until 1993.Upon retirement, he worked part time at Bridgewater State College from 1993-1998.
Don’s love and passion for the Lord led him to serve in the church and community. Don loved music and sang in many choruses and choirs. He produced “Good News” for BTY Cable 8 Bridgewater Access Channel from 1987-1993. Volunteering for United Cerebral Palsy Association Southeastern, MA, Special Needs program, City of Brockton, South Shore Parents support group for Special Needs children.
Besides his wife Judith, he leaves 2 daughters, Beth Williams and her husband Mark of St. John’s, FL and Faith Carter of Whitman and 2 grandchildren, Brandon and Rachel Williams.
His services will be held on Wednesday June 29th at 10:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be private in the MA VA National Cemetery.
