Mrs. Sylby Pons Martinat, age 89, widow of Mr. Donald H. Martinat Sr. of Pilot Mountain, NC (formally of Valdese, NC), passed away Thursday morning June 23, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Martinat was born in Burke County, December 15, 1921 to the late Silvio and Maude Jones Pons. She was a retired business professional having operated the Nationwide Insurance office in Valdese for many years with her husband before retiring to Pilot Mountain. Mrs. Martinat was a member of Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Valdese and attended Hills Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain, NC. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law: Don and Kathryn Martinat, Pilot Mountain, Bob and Libby Martinat, Rural Hall, NC. One Grandaughter: Lynn and husband Kevin Campbell, Pilot Mountain, One Grandson: Tres Martinat, Raleigh, NC. Two Great Grandchildren: Tyler and Leslie Campbell, Pilot Mountain, One Sister: Billie and husband T.J. Curtis, Valdese, One Brother: Frank Pons, Valdese, NC. Mrs. Martinat was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 48 years, Donald H. Martinat, Sr., One sister: Marie Mullins, One Brother: John Pons. Graveside services will be conducted Monday, June 27, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Valdese, NC. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Hills Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and at other times at the home of her son and daughter-in-law: Don and Kathryn Martinat, Pilot Mountain, NC.
