WEBSTER - Stephanie H. (O’Bara) Scanlon, 95, formerly of 2 Lincoln Street, died Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Milford Regional Medical Center. Her husband of 26 years, Thomas P. Scanlon, Sr., died in 1967.

She leaves a son, Thomas P. Scanlon II and his wife Nancy of West Dennis; a daughter, Maureen P. Stelmach and her husband Frank of Douglas; 2 grandchildren, Karyn Chapman and her husband Phill of Douglas and Kevin Stelmach and his wife Tatiana of Petersburg, Alaska; 4 great grandchildren, Ashley Chapman, and Cody, Buddy and Masha Stelmach; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers, John, Walter, Joseph and Stanley O’Bara; by 2 sisters, Katherine S. Kane and Helen G. O’Bara; and by a great grandson, Ashton Chapman.

She was born in Grafton, daughter of Vincent and Mary (Lisak) O’Bara and lived in Webster most of her married life. She was a 1932 graduate of Grafton High School and took several university extension courses in business.

Mrs. Scanlon and her husband owned and operated the Scanlon Funeral Home for many years since 1949. She served as secretary-treasurer until the time of her husband’s death in 1967, at which time her son Tom, who was a licensed funeral director and embalmer, became the owner of the funeral home. She continued in the same capacity as secretary-treasurer. Previously, she was employed as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Grafton for several years until the time of her marriage in 1941.

She was a member of Saint Louis Church and its League of Catholic Women, a member of the Hubbard Regional Hospital Guild and of the Grafton Historical Society.

The funeral will be held Thursday, June 30, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Louis Church, 14 Lake Street. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Dudley. Calling hours will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, June 29, in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake Street, Webster, MA 01570.
