Mr. Charles W. Scott, of Taunton and formerly of Brockton, died Tuesday, June 21 in the New England Sinai Hospital, Stoughton, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Alice (Benoit) Scott. He was born 85 years ago in Brockton, the son of the late Charles F. and Phoebe L. (Brewster) Scott. He was educated in Brockton and had been a Taunton resident since 1952. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a store manager for the former Fernandes Supermarkets and at the Quick Stop in Norton for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the battleship USS Iowa. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with 3 Stars, the American Area Medal, and the Phillippine Liberation Medal with 2 Stars. He was a Life Member of the Portuguese American Civic Club. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and loved to travel to Cape Cod and New Hampshire. He especially enjoyed his precious grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: Steven Scott and his wife, Kimberlee of Wareham; 3 daughters: Sandra Scott of Taunton, Karen Beauvais and her husband, Leo Jr. of Taunton, and Kelly Merritt and her husband, Troy of Taunton; 3 grandchildren: Jessica Scott, Riley Merritt and Tyler Merritt; 4 brothers: Paul Scott of Raynham, Walter Scott of Sagamore Beach, Raymond Scott of Brockton, and Kenneth Scott of Wyoming; 2 sisters: Lillian Swederskas of Brockton and Phyllis Scott of New Jersey, and several nieces and nephews. Charles was also the brother of the late Robert F. Scott, Donald F. Scott, John B. Scott, Stanley H. Scott, Ralph Scott, Edna McNevin, Hazel Blatchford, and Ethel Matta.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street on Friday, June 24 at 10:30 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 11:30 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
