Mrs. Kay Thiel Moon
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, June 21, 2011, Mrs. Kay Thiel Moon, 75, loving wife for 53 years of Dr. W. Harold Moon.
Mrs. Moon was a native of New Orleans, LA and resided in Augusta. She was a 1953 graduate of Fortier High School in New Orleans, and a 1957 graduate of Auburn University where she was an active member of ZTA sorority. Upon graduation and marriage, she worked at Auburn University and Florida State University while her husband attended graduate school. She was a homemaker with her avocational passions being arts, crafts, and garage sales. Mrs. Moon was a talented and serious seamstress, frequently instructing others in such arts.
Mrs. Moon was a charter member of the Wymens Group that had begun with support from the Family Life Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital (now Trinity Hospital). She was an active member for over two decades before illness precluded her continuation.
Family members in addition to her husband include daughter, Alison Moon Shorter (Robert); son, Brian Harold Moon (Suzanne); grandson, Garrett William Moon; granddaughter, Lucy Claire Moon, all of Augusta; half-sister, Lois Tomi Fitzgerald of Frisco, TX; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Milton Woodruff of Columbus, GA. She was predeceased by her father, Walter E. Thiel and her mother and stepfather: Lucille deArmas Jones and Olin T. Jones.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 24, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Honorary pallbearers will be active and past members of the Wymens Group.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Friendship Community Center, 1720 Central Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.
