Port Charlotte, FL – Howard J. Gavin 64 formerly of Abington and Whitman, passed away unexpectedly in Florida on Monday June 20. He was the beloved husband of Anita C. (Booth) Gavin.
Born and raised in Abington he was the son of the late Howard D. and Dorothy (Larsen) Gavin and a graduate of Abington High Class of 1964.
Howard had been a proud member of the Abington Fire Department, retiring after 35 years of service.
Until his retirement and move to Florida 4 years ago where he worked as a realtor for Century 21, he had been a longtime resident of Whitman, and raised his family there.
He was a member of the Seaside Club of Plymouth and the Elks Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing and leaves behind many great friends with whom he shared these activities.
In addition to his wife Anita he is survived by his loving children Heather M. Gavin of East Bridgewater, Christina (Gavin) Shaw and her husband Christopher of Brockton, Heidi Gavin and her companion Benjamin Fletcher of Whitman, and his sisters Mary(Gavin) Winter and her husband Kenneth of FL, and June(Gavin) Haskins of Whitman,his grandaughters, Chloe and Erin O'Neal. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held Saturday June 25 at 2 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Friday June 24 from 4-8 PM.
