Cecil Gammon, age 69, of 1973 Red Marshall Road, Pelham, died Monday, June 20, 2011 in the Danville Regional Medical Center. He was a good man who enjoyed life, and loved golfing and football, especially the 49ers. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. His favorite saying was "give me five good buddy".
Born June 19, 1942 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Alonzo Gammon and Ophelia Barker Gammon. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber where he had worked for 36 years in the balance and patch department, and later worked at Sheetz. His wife, Juanita Gammon, survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: Cecil Walter Gammon, Jr. of Pelham, Alvin Gammon of Farmville, VA, and Timothy Gammon of Burlington, NC; two brothers: George Gammon of Danville and Jerry Gammon of Liberty, NC; his two beloved dogs, Sandy and Toby. He was predeceased by one sister, Minnie Sue Hooker, and brothers Lonnie Gammon, Samson Gammon, Harry Lee Gammon, and Calvin Gammon.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Don Harrell will be held Friday, June 24, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. in the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., and at other times, they will be at the residence, 1973 Red Marshall Road, Pelham.
