Edward Joseph McCarty, Jr., "Ned", of Sharon, Pocasset, and formerly of Waban, on June 21, 2011 at age 84, surrounded by his loving family. Devoted husband of the late Constance Cartwright (Woods) McCarty. Survived by his sister Katharine A. McCarty of Newton Highlands. Predeceased by a sister Mary McCarty Stevens of Encino, CA, and a brother Peter E. McCarty of Paradise Valley, AZ. Beloved father of five sons: Philip Woods and wife Ingrid of Natick and Pocasset, Mark Edward and his wife Alison of West Newton, Richard Campbell and wife Maureen of St. Joseph, MN, Paul Cartwright and wife Deborah of Canton and Pocasset, Edward Joseph III of Sharon, and his daughter Constance Jane of Sharon. Adored grandfather, known as, "Boppy", to eleven grandchildren: Nicholas, Jillian, Rachel, Peter, Elizabeth, Bailey, Aidan, Clare, Erin, Andrew and Robert. Born in Boston, Ned grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School, class of 1944, and Harvard College, class of 1948. Veteran of World War II, serving in occupied Japan. He was the president of Red Cab Company of Brookline, and held senior executive positions at Checker Taxi and Town Taxi of Boston. Former president of Brookline Rotary, recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow. Dad took great pleasure and delight in the lives of his wife, children, and grandchildren, and loved being on Cape Cod in Pocasset. Memories of his sense of humor, engaging wit, and charming demeanor will remain with us throughout our lives. We were blessed with his many years of loving kindness.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St, Rt 16, Wellesley, Friday June 24 at 9AM. Funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Wellesley Hills at 10AM. Relatives and Friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
