Obituary

J. Robert Mundry, 79, of Methuen, Massachusetts, passed away Monday peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston, after a long illness. He leaves his beloved wife of 58 years Patricia (Clarke) Mundry and four children: Robert C. Mundry of Haverhill, MA; Susan E. Mundry, wife of Richard G. Maines of Newburyport, MA; Julie A. Foley wife of Michael Foley of Londonderry, NH; and Kenneth C. Mundry husband of Allison (Look) Mundry of Salem, NH. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren: Caitlin and Gillian Mundry of Methuen; Katherine Maines of Newburyport; Courtney (Maines) Daily of East Aurora, NY; Kevin Maines of Evansville, IN; Kerrin Foley of Londonderry, NH; and Jacqueline and Kenneth Mundry, Jr. of Salem, NH. He also leaves four great-grandchildren.

Mundry was born on August 22, 1931 and the son of Joseph Mundry and Alice (Seguin) Ruff. He attended St. Anne School and Central Catholic High School. He enlisted in the US Army in 1952 and served in Germany during the Korean War. He continued his service in the Army Reserve until 1965 leaving with the rank of Sgt. Major. He had a successful career in sales, retiring after many years as a sales manager for Triangle Publications-TV Guide Magazine.

Mr. Mundry’s true passion was making a difference in the lives of everyone he met. He encouraged his children and all who knew him to be the best they could be and to, above all, help others. A dedicated boy scout for over 60 years, Mr. Mundry embodied the scout oath. He served as Camp Director of Camp Onway in Raymond, NH and was President of the foundation, Friends of Onway, that raised funds to support the camp’s programs. He was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, and the Order of the Heart Award. He was a dedicated member of St. Monica Parish and served for over 50 years with the St. Vincent De Paul Society, he was also a Eucharistic minister and served on many church committees, including the church building, fair and finance committees.

Mr. Mundry was recognized many times for his civic contributions. The Health Lodge at Camp Onway was named in his honor and the Methuen Exchange Club recognized his contributions to the community with their Book of Golden Deeds Award.

Friends and family may call on Friday, June 24th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Monica Church chapel, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 25th at 11 a.m. at St. Monica Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.
