Laura Henderson Haley, beloved mother and wife, succumbed to the illness she bravely fought for three years, on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Born in Danville on May 19, 1970, she was a 1988 graduate of George Washington High School and a 1992 graduate of Averette University, and completed her Master's Degree with Longwood College in 1998 (while eight months pregnant).
Laura spent her life in service to others. Employed by Hughes Home, then the City of Danville Emergency Dispatch Center, Laura then went to work for Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services for 17 years. Upon retirement in 2010, she was the Pact Program Coordinator. She was instrumental in building multiple programs at DPCS.
Laura is survived by her husband of 18 years, Dennis Haley, and her 12 year old son, Dylan, who was her proudest achievement. She is also survived by another son, Jeb Haley, of the residence. In addition, she is survived by a brother, John Henderson; two nieces, McKenzie Henderson and Charity Henderson; two nephews, Trey Henderson and Deacon Henderson; five cousins, Angela Jackson, Ricky White, Ronnie White, Michael White, and Stephen Jones. Also surviving are her loving caregivers, which includes her aunts, Faith Brown and Betty White, and her mother-in-law, Eva Gentry. Laura was predeceased by both of her parents, John Thomas Henderson and Linda Lee Jones Farrel, and by her grandmother, Mildred Fallin Jones.
Funeral services for Laura Haley, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplin G.H. Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel.The Haley family would like to extend a special thanks to the City of Danville Police Department Honor Guard.
