Obituary

Francis X. McGuire, of Fairfield, CT and Wellfleet, MA died Thursday evening June 16, 2011 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich. He was 59. Born September 11, 1951 in New Britain, where he also grew up, he was the son of the late John S. McGuire, a police officer, and Helen (McCarthy) McGuire. A graduate of Goddard College in Vermont, he was a writer and video producer. Prior to founding his multimedia and video production company, McGuire Media Group, he was a partner at Hewitt Associates, a human resources consulting firm. As a young man, he worked as a DJ, putting to good use his mellifluous voice, quick wit, and ample record collection. He also taught video production at the University of Hartford.

He is survived by his wife Sharon (Koslosky) McGuire, to whom he was married for 39 years, as well as his daughter Sarah McGuire of Chicago. He loved them above all else.

Fran had lived in Fairfield since 1980. Having grown up visiting Cape Cod, in 1996 he and his wife purchased a vacation cottage in Wellfleet. Though it was a second home, in spirit it was his true residence. A former surfer and windsurfer and an avid sailor, he was a member of the Fayerweather Yacht Club in Bridgeport, CT and the Chequessett Yacht and Country Club in Wellfleet.

Fran was remarkable for his warmth, humor, optimism, sensitivity, endurance, work ethic, and the relish he took in all that he loved.

A service is being planned for family and friends. Memorial contributions in his honor can be made to the McCarthy Care Center by visiting www.hospicecapecod.org.
