Obituary

Krista “Kris” Allgood Mattocks, 48, of Chula died Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at New River Baptist Church. Rev. Jason Jones will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Robert R. Mattocks, Richard D. Mattocks, D. J. Wagner Jr., Stanley York, David Brooks and Michael Luck will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad White, Ralph Mills and Robert “Bobby” Perrin. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Mattocks was born on April 23, 1963 in Atlanta and was the daughter of William David Allgood and Essielene York Allgood of Tifton. She graduated from Tift County High School in 1981 and received Associate of Science degrees in Business Administration and General Business from Young Harris College and ABAC, respectively. She was employed as an Accountant II with the UGA Veterinary Diagnostic Lab in Tifton for 19 years and a University of Georgia employee for 23 years. She attended St. Williams Catholic Church in Fitzgerald and New River Baptist Church in Tifton, being a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Abbeville. She was a member of the Tifton Choral Society and a founding member of the 43rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment Living Historians from the War Between the States. She is fondly known as “Mother Mattocks” by many in the Georgia Volunteer Battalion. She enjoyed the activities of cooking, camping, traveling, hunting and fishing, reading, antiquing, working in her yard and tending her many animals. Some of her interests were writing poetry, sewing, quilting, playing the piano/organ and cross-stitching. She enjoyed the sunrises, sunsets and drinking coffee with friends around the campfire.

Mrs. Mattocks was preceded in death by her grandparents, Floyd Wagner, Sr. and James Buck York and Susan Ethel Draper York.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mattocks is survived by her husband of 28 years, Charles “Chip” Mattocks, Jr. of Chula and her grandmother, Joyce Wagner of Albany.
