Lester B. Smith, 82, formerly of Londonderry, NH died Friday June 17, 2011 in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Derry, NH. Mr. Smith was born on April 11, 1929, the son of the late Bushrod and Sylvia (Chase) Smith. He was a self employed builder, developer and heavy equipment operator. He attended the Londonderry United Methodist Church where he and his family played an active roll in relocating the church back to its original location within the church property. He was an avid bird hunter and especially enjoyed hunting field grouse.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth E. Smith of Derry, one son, David Smith of Strafford, NH, three daughters, Christine Marcucci of Amherst, NH, Alice Baker of Peterborough, NH, and Sylvia Rodriguez of Glendale, AZ, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his half brother, Brad Smith of Londonderry.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Monday June 20, 2011 from 6 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A memorial service was held on Tuesday at 10:00am in the Londonderry United Methodist Church, 258 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Londonderry.
