Margaret Ganey Crowder, age 88, of 781 Peach Orchard Road, Axton, Virginia, died Thursday, June 16, 2011 in Riverside Health & Rehab Center where she had been a resident for the past eight months.
Born June 5, 1923 in Wilmington, NC, she was the daughter of the late Louie W. Ganey and Maggie Ganey. She lived most of her life in Danville and had worked at Roman Eagle Memorial Home as a nursing assistant for 15 years. Her husband, Morgan M. Crowder, predeceased her. Mrs. Crowder was a member of Arlington Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters: Ann Pruitt of Roxboro, NC, Pam Gill of Axton, VA, Chris Collins of Pelham, NC, and Becky Bohin of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters: Lois Wilborne and Winnie Pruitt, both of Danville; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by one son, Charles Gibson, and by one sister, Cornelius Martin.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Ronnie Pruitt and Rev. Kenneth Hayes will be held Monday, June 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 19, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. At other times, they will be at the home of Pam Gill, 852 Peach Orchard Road, Axton, VA.
