METHUEN - Laurel (Payne) Hastie, 61, died Tuesday, June 14, in her Methuen home surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Joseph H. Riley. She was born April 15, 1950, in Melrose, the daughter of the late Robert W. and Gloria (Blair) Payne. She graduated from Tewksbury High School class of 1968. She lived and worked in various Merrimack Valley Communities before settling in Methuen for the past eight years. She worked as an operations supervisor in various local banks before becoming ill.

Besides her husband, Joseph, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Mark and Nicole Hastie of Dracut, Mike and Tara Hastie of Dracut, seven grandchildren; Joshua, Anna, Logan, and Gavin Hastie, all of Dracut, Katie Wetherly, William and Noah Hastie of LA, brother Blair Payne and sister-in-law Denise of Bradford, and many nieces and nephews and friends.

She was the mother of the late, Billy Hastie and the sister of the late, Mark Payne.
