Obituary

Francis X. Mahoney, age 87, of Hopkinton, passed away June 13, 2011 at the Kathleen Daniel Nursing Home in Framingham following a period of declining health.

Born in Marlborough, the son of the late Robert D. and Angeline (Guertin) Mahoney of Framingham, Frank attended primary grades in the Framingham school system, and received further education at the Boston School for the Deaf in Randolph. Undaunted by partial loss of sight and hearing due to complications from spinal meningitis, Frank enlisted in the United States Merchant Marines, serving in the European and Asian theaters during WWII. He then went on to successfully own and operate barber shops in the Metro West area. Following his retirement as a barber, Frank continued to work in the maintenance and mechanical departments at several area businesses, including General Motors and Sperry-Rand corporations.

Frank was an accomplished and talented woodworking craftsman, and artist. He thoroughly enjoyed writing and reading poetry, but he especially enjoyed and loved time spent with family and friends.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia (Byrne) Mahoney with whom he shared 51 years of marriage; his loving daughter Donna Cruz of Hopkinton; and grandchildren Trey C. Cruz and Joyner J. Cruz; his brother Robert D Mahoney of Ashland; and special family friend Sam Dollenmayer, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Frank’s Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 10:00am in St. John the Evangelist Church, 20 Church Street, Hopkinton. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Donations in Frank’s memory may be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society
