Hobe Sound, FL – Robert L. ”Bob” “Papa Bob” LaRossa Sr. 70, formerly a 37 year resident of Whitman, died Sunday June 12 in Florida after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 49 years to Virginia (Rowan) LaRossa.
Born and raised in Weymouth he was the son of the late Louis and Louise (Pizzi) LaRossa, and a graduate of Weymouth High. As a youngster growing up in Weymouth he had worked many hours in the family business “LaRossa Shoe Repair” in the Columbian Square section of Weymouth.
Before his retirement and move to Florida seven years ago, Bob had been employed with the Gillette Company for over thirty-seven years.
As a resident of Whitman, Bob took great pride in maintaining his beautiful home and gardens. He was an avid sports fan, coaching his sons and other youth in Little League Baseball for twelve years.
While enjoying his retirement in Florida, Bob became an avid and talented golfer, and a golf champion of the Heritage Ridge Club in Florida. For the past five years he had served as president of the Hobe Sound Association, in Florida.
He was truly a family man and his greatest pleasure came from the many times spent with his large family surrounding him.
In addition to his wife Virginia he is survived by his loving children Robert L. LaRossa, Jr and his wife Beth of Revere, Linda Griffin and her husband Tom of Whitman, Julie LaRossa of Hanson, and Steven LaRossa and his wife Kara of Braintree, his brothers William LaRossa of Naples, FL and Richard LaRossa of Navarre, FL. He is also survived by his grandchildren whom he adored Erica, Keri, and Jeni Griffin, Alex Joshua, Gino and Joey LaRossa, and his great granddaughter Corinna Marie as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Al LaRossa and Clara Raspa.
His services will be held Saturday June 18 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. A committal service will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Friday June 17 from 4-8 PM.
