Albert F. Swenson Jr. (USN-ret.), age 85, of Mystic, passed away Monday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
Mr. Swenson was born in Staten Island, NY on June 1, 1926 the son of Albert F. Swenson Sr. and Gertrude (Neibel) Swenson.
After receiving his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served for 30 years and during 3 wars; World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer-4 in 1973.
He was a 35-year communicant of St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church in Groton and was a life member of the Mystic VFW.
He was married to Joyce Margaret (Burrows) Swenson in England on Nov. 20, 1948. Mrs. Swenson died in 1994.
Mr. Swenson is survived by his children, Frank Swenson of East Lyme and Gillian Conard of Mystic; 2 grandchildren; and his siblings, Muriel Jacob of Staten Island and Jack Swenson of VA.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 2-4pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Pt. Road, Groton on Thursday at 11am. Burial with presentation of military honors will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic.
