Phyllis L. Leighton, 94, of Londonderry, NH, died Saturday June 11, 2011 in the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. She was born in Boston, MA on January 11, 1917, a daughter of the late Carl and Zoe (Allen) Nelson. Mrs. Leighton had been a resident of Londonderry for the past 15 years, formerly living in Northwood, NH and Winchester, MA. While living in Winchester, she was an active member of the Crawford Memorial United Methodist Church. She had been a member of Neighbors and Newcomers, and enjoyed gardening, reading and playing bridge.
She is survived by one son, William A. Leighton, III of Houston, TX; two daughters, Sally L. Clutter of Concord, MA; and Janice L. Brink of Windham, NH; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband William A. Leighton, Jr. in 2008, and her brother Allen Nelson.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 17th from 4 - 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18th at 2:00pm in the Londonderry Presbyterian Church, 126 Pillsbury Rd., Londonderry. Private burial will be held in the Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester, MA.
