Obituary

In Barefoot Bay, Fl, June 8, 2011 Ernest E. “Mr. Softee” husband of the late Shirley (Robbins) Harrison died at his home in Florida at the age of 87. Born in Berkley, Ernest was the son of the late David and Eunice (Woodward) Harrison. Ernest spent the last two years in Florida and most of his life in the city of Taunton. He was a graduate of Dighton High School and attended Bristol Community College. He was in the US Army serving during WWII as a tech 5th grade. Ernest was retired from MCI in Walpole and Bridgewater as a correction officer for twenty seven years retiring in 1986. Ernest also owned and operated a gas station in Taunton and a Mr. Softee ice cream truck. He was a member of the Masons Lodge, VFW, loved to travel and was a hard worker. He was a great story teller to his grandchildren and cherished his time with his family. Ernest is survived by his loving companion Natalie Gonsalves of Barefoot, FL formerly of New Bedford. Father of Donna French of Barnstable, Linda Doyle of Dennis, Kerry DePonte of Taunton, Karen Andrews of Fl and Cynthia Bliss-Kaplan of Freetown. Natalie’s son Roland Gonsalves of New Bedford. Brother of Phyllis Roberts of No. Carolina, David Harrison Jr. of Michigan and the late Robert Harrison. Grandfather of Laurie Hinken, Glenn Needs, Amy Michael, Kristen Lazorchek, Todd Doyle, Matthew, Adam, Nathan DePonte, Amanda Johnson, Korey Hampton, Courtney Pierce, Brett Cornell, Christopher and Casey Bliss and Great Grandfather of eighteen. A service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton Wed, June 15th at 10 AM. Calling hours will be on Tues from 4-8 PM. Interment Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton. Donations in Ernest’s memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, 502 Bedford Street, Fall River, Ma, 02720.
