Obituary



Boylston - Ruth B. (Johnson) Slik, 93, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Steven S. Slik, in 1988. “Gran” leaves her daughter, Sonia Slik of Marblehead and her sons, Stepan S. Slik and his wife Milly of Berlin, Peter A. Slik and his wife Judy of Spencer, and David A. Slik and his wife Lynn, of Boylston. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Emily Slik of Berlin, Stepan S. Slik III of Worcester, and Zachary A. Slik of Auburn, her great-granddaughter, Harmony Slik and her lifelong friend, Florence Smith of Boylston.

Ruth was born in Leominster to Lawrence E. and Bertha F. (Macomber) Johnson. She received her R.N. from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and continued her education at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. (Theory and Practice of Anesthesia, Class of 1947). She worked at various hospitals and nursing homes in the Worcester Area for many years. Ruth belonged to First Congregational Church of Boylston where she was active with Christian Education. She also volunteered in her community for Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts and Senior Services. Ruth was an avid and proficient knitter and was known for her beautiful Irish Knit Sweaters.

The funeral service will be held at The First Congregational Church of Boylston, 10 Church Street on Monday, June 13, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to UMass Memorial Hospice, PO Box 2795, Worcester MA 01613-9938.
