Sarah T. McAfoose, 87 of Derry, NH died Wednesday June 8, 2011 at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center of Derry, after a period of declining health. She was born September 22, 1923 in Milltown, PA, a daughter of the late Chester and Nellie Taylor. She was raised and educated in nearby Penn Hills, PA. She received her bachelors degree in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and her Masters of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Sarah was employed for 36 years as a high school teacher and counselor with the Penn Hills School District. After retirement she resided in the Tampa, FL area for 22 years, prior to relocating to Derry two years ago. She loved to paint, enjoyed cruises and traveling, enjoyed reading, and was an active member of the First Parish Church of E. Derry. She will long be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Members of the family include her long time companion, Matthew Biss of Derry, a son and his wife, Rand and Rose McAfoose of Derry, a granddaughter and her husband, Kathy McAfoose-Holmes & Rich Holmes of Derry and two great grandchildren, Christopher and Megan Holmes, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours. After cremation, a memorial service will be held Saturday June 18, 2011 at 10am at the First Parish Church of Derry, 47 East Derry Rd. East Derry, NH. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St.,Framingham, MA 01701.
