Hilda (Gibau) Fortes, 79, of New Bedford died Monday February 2, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Julio J. Fortes, who died on January 1, 2004.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John and Isabel (Gonsalves) Gibau, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
Survivors include 7 daughters, Julie A. Ramos, Marie A. Frates, Elizabeth M. Fortes, Isabel M. Duarte, Sandra D. Fortes, and Sherry L. Macedo, all of New Bedford and Alice M. Miranda of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; a son, Allen R. Fortes of Pembroke; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.She was the sister of the late Tiago Gibau, James Gibau, Antone Gibau, and Henry Gibau.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals 495 Park St. New Bedford, Friday February 6, 2004 at 8 AM.Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Visiting hours will be on Thursday February 5, 2004 from 6-9 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
