
GLOUCESTER: Arthur E. “Artie” Pimental, 84, died Monday, June 6, 2011 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness. He was the husband of Pauline E. (Olsen) Pimental and the late Catherine (Kallio) Pimental.
Born in Gloucester on April 20, 1927, he was the son of the late G. Jerome and Mabel (Rose) Pimental. Although he left school to enlist in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he was a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1945.
Upon his discharge in 1946, Mr. Pimental returned home only to travel to San Diego where he became a tuna fisherman. He later returned to Gloucester and went to Barber College. Having graduated with honors, he applied his trade in his own business and the businesses of others for over thirty-one years. His first retirement was followed by eighteen years of employment with the United States Post Office in Rockport, after which he began working with Tony Ciulla up until this past Christmas.
Arthur was a lifetime member of the Gloucester Fraternity Club, where he enjoyed participating in the Monday Evening Cribbage Club. He was also a member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion and former member of the Gloucester Lions Club. In addition to being a people person, he also loved his dogs, Bandit and the late Pudgy. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife of thirty years, he is survived by his son, Gary Stephen Pimental; a daughter, Gail Ann Madruga, companion of Shaun Murphy; two wonderful granddaughters, Jacqueline Magnarelli and Amanda Madruga; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Veronica and Madison Magnarelli; and last, but not least, Landon Everett D’Anjou; his brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Cecile Pimental; an aunt, Jennie Noble; and Rose Tocco, whom he thought of as a sister, and her husband, Anthony. Among many nieces and nephews, he leaves Karin, wife of Robert O’Donnell, and their children, Shannon, Waldon, Reagan, Sean, Christian and Lauryn O’Donnell, and many dear friends including, Bill Fleming, Paul Miller, and Ralph Goulart. In addition to Catherine, he was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Ronald Madruga; grandson-in-law, Robert Magnarelli; nephew, Jeff Pimental; and his stepmother, Theresa Pimental.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday morning in the Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 9:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 8 p.m. Committal services with military honors will be held on Friday morning in the Calvary Cemetery at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
