Frances Helen Wall “Nana” Mays, age 82, of 9940 NC 700, Pelham, NC, died Sunday, June 5, 2011 in Morehead Memorial Hospital, Eden, NC. She had been in declining health for the past two years.
Born June 26, 1928 in Pelham, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Thomas Wall and Helen Ollie Travis Wall. She lived most of her life in the Pelham Community and worked as a lab technician for Dan River, Inc. until retirement. Her husband, Jacob B. Mays, predeceased her. Mrs. Mays was a lifelong member of Hickory Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one step-daughter, Juanita “June” Mays of Arlington, Virginia, one brother, Clarence R. Wall of Pelham, three sisters, Ollie W. French of Reidsville, NC, Shirley W. Layne of Ruffin, NC, and Norma Jean Baise of Pelham,NC, thirteen nieces and nephews. She was “Nana” to special great-niece Samantha and special great-nephew David Adkins, II of Pelham.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Emma W. Ferrell and Mary Wall Hylton.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 4 p.m. at the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, with interment following in the Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home Tuesday, June 7, 2011, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. At other times, they will be at the home of her sister, Shirley Layne, 9103 NC 700, Ruffin, NC.
