Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Alfred K. “Skip” Stanton, Sr., 79, died Saturday, June 4, 2011 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Born in Gloucester on July 27, 1931, he was the son of the late Ellard and Marguerite (Essbury) Stanton. A lifelong resident of Gloucester, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 and served two tours of duty in Korea before being honorably discharged in 1955.
Skip was employed as a chef for over thirty years at several Cape Ann restaurants. He was a former member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion, the Amvets Post #32 and the Cape Ann Chapter No. 1471 Loyal Order of Moose.
He is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Kain, Sheila Bona and Dawn Stanton; three sons, Frederick Stanton, Alfred K. Stanton, Jr. and his wife, Abbie and Stephen Stanton, Sr. and his wife, Tammy; fourteen grandchildren, Mitsy, Brian, Jenny, Jayne, April, Jonathan, Stephen Jr., Craig, Jessica, Katie, Steven, Jillian, Tessah and Keith Jr.; six great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Noah, Riley, Jimmy, Logan and Josie; two brothers, Ralph and his wife, Grace Stanton and James Stanton; one sister, Grace Munroe and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by three sisters, Marion Gilbert and Calvie and Marguerite Stanton and six brothers, Robert, Richard, Frederick, T. Raymond, Charles and Wayne Stanton.
His funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. There are no visiting hours. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the “Resident Activity Fund” c/o Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 292 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
