Merle Edmunds Puckett, age 82, formerly of Gilbert Drive, died Friday, June 3, 2011 in the Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been a resident of Piney Forest Health Care for the past three years.
Born March 23 1929 in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar Edmunds and Mary Edmunds. She lived most of her life in Danville and retired after 30 years of service with Dan River, Inc. Her husband, Douglas Lee Puckett, predeceased her. Mrs. Puckett was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Puckett and his wife Tamara of Danville; one daughter, Sandra Seation and her husband Jim of Myrtle Beach, SC.; one brother, George Edmunds of Danville; one sister, Ruby Pressley of Danville; four grandchildren and one great-grandson; her close friend and caregiver, Gladys Carlton of Danville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Billy Edmunds, Johnny Edmunds, Kenneth Edmunds, and E. P. Edmunds, and by one sister, Ruth Francis.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Carl E. Burger will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m., and at other times, they will be at the home of her son, Wayne Puckett, 220 Jenny Lane, Danville, VA.
