Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Shanklin Morgan, 81, died peacefully at her home on June 3rd­, 2011 with her family by her side. She was born in Christian County, Kentucky on April 12, 1930 to the late Charles and Grace Woodburn Shanklin. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Shanklin Jr. of Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Visitation will be at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home on Saturday June 4th from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at First Presbyterian Church from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Clarksville, Tennessee with the Reverend David Forney officiating on Sunday June 5th at 4:00 p.m. The burial at Greenwood Cemetery will be private.
Mrs. Morgan attended both Bethel Women’s College in Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia. In 1983, Mrs. Morgan served as the curriculum chairman and member of the steering committee of the Clarksville Montgomery County School System Blue Ribbon Five-Year Goals and Objectives Committee. She also served as director of the Clarksville Montgomery County Education Foundation in 1986.
Mrs. Morgan was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Women of the Church. She was a homemaker and served her community as a volunteer.
For over 50 years, Mrs. Morgan was the loving wife to Cecil Morgan and mother to their six children. She is survived by her sister-in-laws, Betty Shanklin of Hopkinsville, Kentucky and Imogene Turrentine (Robert) of Marietta, Georgia. She is the mother of six children, Cecil Morgan, Jr. (Mary Beth), David Morgan (Barbara), Cheryl Morgan Barton (Ted), Margaret Morgan Adames (Leo), Gene Morgan (Kathy), Don Morgan (Sarah), and son of her heart, Sam Lyle Jr. (Leona), devoted caregiver, Maribel Cooper, and Dale Lyle, manager of Oak Hill Farms.
She has 15 grandchildren, Cecil Morgan, III, Benjamin Morgan, David Morgan, Jr., Wade Morgan, Sam Morgan, Jeff Nuckolls, Emily Nuckolls Vaughn, Mary Kathryn Barton, Morgan Adames, Julia Adames Purdue, Martha Morgan Runkle, Katherine Morgan, Laura Morgan, Don Morgan, Jr. and Lance Morgan. She has five great-grandchildren, Ashley Morgan, Elijah Barton, Jacob Barton, Briley Morgan, and Owen Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 213 Main Street, Clarksville, Tennessee 37040.
