Martha Virginia Carter Spivey, age 86, formerly of Nicholls, passed away at Satilla Regional Medical Center in Waycross, GA, on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Mrs. Spivey was born on May 10, 1925 to the late Nathaniel and Ada Wilson Carter in Nicholls, GA and she is the widow of Horace Spivey. She had worked in the lunchroom for the Nicholls schools and was a member of the Nicholls Church of God of Prophecy. Mrs. Spivey was preceded in death by a son: Larry Spivey. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Nicholls Church of God of Prophecy with interment following in the Roxie Mae Cemetery. Survivors include: son: Nat Derone (Debbie) Spivey, Blackshear, GA daughters: Jenny (Monroe) Carver, Douglas, GA, Genette (John) Jowers, Columbia, SC, Darrell (Rev. Jimbo) Steed, Nicholls, GA, Vonda Dixon, Alma, GA; brothers: Herbert Carter and Carl Carter both of Waycross, GA; daughter in law: Sherall Spivey, Douglas, GA; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
