WAYLAND: Harold W. Hynes, 80, of Wayland, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 2, 2011 following a brief illness.
He was born in Wayland at the family residence on August 2, 1930 the son of the late Harold Oswald and Mary Agnes (Connors) Hynes.
Mr. Hynes is survived by his loving and devoted children Susan J. Bourque and her husband Ray of Nashua, NH; Sandra E. Shanahan and her husband David of Chelmsford and Steven W. Hynes and his wife Jean of Hopkinton. He was the beloved grandfather of Ryan, Casey, Matt, Emily, Sarah, David, Michael, Brendan, Meghan and Nicholas. He was the brother of Nancy Field of Hudson, Carol Harakles of Wayland and the late Constance LaFortune. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the husband of the late Margaret M.(Confrey) Hynes who died in January of 2007 with whom he shared 50 years of marriage
Harold spent his formative years in Wayland and was a graduate of Wayland High School where he excelled in basketball. He also resided in Mashpee for several years and in Waltham. He served his country proudly as a Corporal with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had a long and distinguished career as a Dispatcher with the Boston Gas Company.
Harold was a great sports fan and enjoyed walking in Mashpee and chatting with his neighbors. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and delighted in being with all of his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitations will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Family and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 10:00 am at Parish of the Good Shepherd at St. Zepherin’s Church, 99 Main St (Route 27), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Hynes family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Cochtiuate Village, Wayland.
