Obituary

Mr. Gilbert R. Levesque, of Taunton, died Thursday, June 2 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Mary S. (Biedak) Levesque. A lifelong city resident, he was educated in Taunton and was a graduate of Bristol Community College, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as Chief of the City of Taunton Fire Department for 3 years. A member of the Department for 37 years, Mr. Levesque rose through the ranks from Firefighter to Chief. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Mass. Fire Chiefs Association, the Association of State, County and Municipal Employees, the Maximillian Kolbe Guild of Holy Rosary Church, and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Mr. Levesque was a communicant and Eucharistic Minister of the Holy Rosary Church in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 2 sons: Michael Levesque of Taunton, and David Levesque of Bridgewater; 3 grandchildren: Maxine, Michael and Lillian Levesque, and several nieces and nephews. Gilbert was also the brother of the late Roland Levesque, James Levesque, Lillian Sprague, Laura Levesque and Irene Karol.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Monday, June 6 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the Holy Rosary Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice..
