Methuen, Ma. – Harry J. Slater, 78, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Dorothy and Bert Slater. He moved to Methuen in 1941 and graduated from Saint Mary’s grammar in Lawrence, and in Methuen was a graduate of the Edward F. Searles High School.
Harry attended Boston University before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served his country with honor during the Korean War. He worked for many years as a mechanical technician in the aerospace and nautical industries retiring from Klein Industries in 1992.
Harry was an active communicant of Saint Monicas Church in Methuen. His greatest passions were his family, friends, and gardening
Harry was the widower of Nancy (Myers) who died in 1966 and Theresa (Maurais) who died in 2001.
Survivors include his four children Brian and his wife Karen Andrews of Melrose, Marianne Lucey and her husband Stephen of Methuen, Christine Habib and her husband Michael of Methuen, and Sharon Slater and her husband Tom Robertson of Byfield, his sister Dorothy Dube of New Britain, Connecticut, 10 grandchildren, Corey, Elizabeth, Connor, Olivia, Julia, Fiona, Shawn, Melina, Ian and Josie, Harry will be dearly missed by his loving companion, Thelma Caparell of Andover, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday at 9 a.m. in Saint Monica’s Church in Methuen. Burial will follow at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery in Bedford, NH on Monday morning at 11 o’clock.
Friends will be warmly received on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen
