George O. Dexter, Jr., 87, of Westport Point died Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Golden Living Center, Lexington, MA. He was husband of the late Ruth-Gloria (Hayman) Dexter.
Born in Newburyport, MA, son of the late George O. and Hester (Kugler) Dexter, he was a resident of Leominster prior to retiring to Westport Point. A veteran of WWII and the Korean War, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. Prior to retirement, he was a chemist in the pulp and paper industry. He was a member of St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Little Compton. Mr. Dexter was a Mason with the Harmony Lodge #9 of Warwick, RI.
Survivors include two sons: George O. “Owen” Dexter, III and his wife Ellen of Medfield, MA and Jonathan C. Dexter of Westport Point; two daughters: Laurie A. Douglas of Lexington and Susan E. Dexter of Acton, MA; four grandchildren: Molly E. Dexter, George O. Dexter, IV, Katherine C. Douglas and Kimberly A. Douglas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Friday, June 3, 2011 at St. Andrew’s by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, Little Compton at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours Thursday 4 – 7 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
Interment in Swan Point Cemetery, E. Providence, RI.
