Evelyn M. (Saccocia) Dee of New Bedford died Tuesday May 31, 2011 peacefully at home after a long illness with breast cancer, which she battled with strength and determination for 33 years. She was the wife of James F. Dee; they had been married for 61 years.
Born in Bridgewater, the daughter of the late Angelo and Elvira (Ventre) Saccocia, she lived in New Bedford since 1953.
She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church.
Mrs. Dee was a member of the Catholic Woman's Club. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Country Club of New Bedford, where she won the Women's Fourball Championship in 1997, and had been the runner-up four times.
Survivors include her husband; four children, Janet M. Hammel and her husband Bradford of Bristol, RI, James P. Dee and his wife Karen of New Bedford, Jane E. Dee and her husband Mark Guthrie of Chester, CT, and Michael J. Dee and his wife Janet of Annapolis, MD; her siblings, James Saccocia of Cumberland, RI and Catherine Browne of Marion; her beloved grandsons, James Michael Dee, Jonathan Dee, Jack Guthrie, and Michael James Dee; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
