Obituary

Boston: Rev. Wilfrid L. Pied, age 85, retired Senior Priest, died Sunday , May 29, 2011 at the Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, following a brief illness. Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Napoleon and Celina (Noury) Pied.

Father Pied began his studies for the priesthood in Canada and completed his studies at St. John Seminary in Boston. Ordained in April of 1951, Father Wilfrid first served at Ste. Jean Baptiste Parish in Lynn. Throughout his priesthood served at St. Alphonse Parish in Beverly, St. Louis de France Parish in Lowell, St. Anthony and St. Theresa Parishes in Guam as Pastor, St. Joseph Parish in Everett as Pastor, St. John the Evangelist in Newton as Pastor, and St. John the Evangelist in Canton. A truly devoted priest of the people, he retired in 1997 and was in residence at Regina Cleri Residence in Boston.

He is survived by his sister, Stella M. Cote of Salem and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by a sister Cecile Pied, and four brothers, Raymond, Emile, Leo and Clarence Pied.

A Rite of Reception of the Body will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem where he will lie in state until 7 p.m. His funeral mass will be concelebrated in Ste. Anne on Friday at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greater Boston Catholic Charities, 185 Columbia Rd., Dorchester, MA 02121.
