Francis "Frank" Squirlock of Peckville died Saturday.
Born March 31, 1920, in Olyphant, son of the late Peter and Mary Regula Squirlock, he attended Olyphant schools and resided there most of his life. He retired from Chamberlain Manufacturing in Scranton. He was chairman of the Olyphant Centennial Club, a more-than-50-year member of the Olyphant American Legion and a life member of the DAV of Dickson City. He was a member of Holy Ghost Parish, Olyphant. He joined the CCC Camp in 1938 and enlisted in the Army in 1939. He was a member of the famous 12th Infantry Elite A Company and was stationed at Arlington National Cemetery, where he was on the firing squad and guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns. He was stationed at Fort Myers and served in Belfast, Ireland; North Africa and Algiers. He was part of the invasion of Italy. He received two battle stars along with other medals.
Surviving are two sisters, Susan Williams, with whom he resided for the past four years, Peckville; and Helen and husband, Bill Saslo, Olyphant; a brother, Paul and wife, Betty, Tucson, Ariz.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Ann Tini, Mary Ronzo, Agnes Serkosky and Margaret Takach; and seven brothers, Joseph, John, George, Peter and Thomas; and two infant brothers.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish at St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant. Interment, Holy Ghost Cemetery, Olyphant.
