Obituary

Anna (Cozanopoulos) Seferiadis, 91, of Dartmouth died January 30, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital unexpectedly.

Born in Nigde, Turkey, Mrs. Seferiadis immigrated to the United states at age 15 settling in New Bedford in 1933 after her marriage. She has resided in Dartmouth for the last 35 years.

She was the wife of the late Christo P. Seferiadis, the former owner of Capitol Hat Shop in New Bedford, and daughter of the late George and Smaragda (Chitnoglou) Cozanopoulos.

She was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church where for the past 49 years, she took great pride in baking the communion bread for the Divine Liturgy services in the traditions which her mother had used. For special church holidays and from time to time, Mrs. Seferiadis would prepare as a personal expression of thanks to God another bread known as "artoklasia" for distribution to the congregation. She was a member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society of her parish. In 1994 she was honored by the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Boston at the eighth annual Diocesan Laity Awards Dinner where she was presented the award by Bishop Methodios for her outstanding service to her parish.

Survivors include 2 sons, George C. Seferiadis, and his wife Stella, of Attleboro and John P. Seferiadis, and his wife Pat, of Newton; a daughter, Helen Rogers, and her husband Stephen J., of New Bedford; 6 grandchildren, Deborah E. Bookis of Acton, Anastasia Potenza of Walpole, Christopher J. Rogers and Elaine Rogers Dupre, both of New Bedford, Jennifer P. Seferiadis and David J. Seferiadis, both of Newton; 3 great-grandchildren, Blaise C. Bookis, Alexandra E. Bookis and Thomas J. Potenza; several nieces and nephews.

She was the grandmother of the late Christopher George Seferiadis.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 87 Ashley Blvd. New Bedford, Tuesday, February 3rd at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Visiting hours at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Monday, February 2nd from 3:30 to 7:30 PM.
