Commer Lee Brooks, Sr., 76, of Norman Park died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 30, 2011 in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. T. Manuel Johnson and Rev. Donnie Sloan will officiate with burial to follow in Paulk’s Chapel Cemetery in Worth County. Lamar Brooks, Marvin Brooks, Charles Brooks, Michael Brooks, Jimmy Abell and Lynn Tanner will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, May 29, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen- Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Brooks was born on October 1, 1934 in Colquitt County and was the son of John Henry Brooks and Elizabeth “Lizzie” Gay Brooks, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Edward Brooks. He worked at Brooks Garage and Wrecker Service on Love Avenue from 1955 until it was changed into a parking lot for Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals; then at Brooks Body Shop and Wrecker Service until age 62. He then retired to fish and farm part-time on the family farm. His hobbies were his family, fishing and hunting.
Mr. Brooks is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Oceline Watson Brooks of Norman Park, to whom he was married on March 14, 1953; one son and daughter-in-law, Junior Lee and Lavern Brooks of Omega; two daughters and one son-in-law, Mary B. and Gary Abell of Tifton and Paula Melissa “Missy” Brooks of Norman Park; grandchildren and their spouses, Stacey and Michelle Abell, Miranda and Dion Hale, Brittni and Doug Walls, Shannon and Danny Erskine and Michelle Bright; 11 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Rebekah Abell, Colyn, Owen and Aubree Hale, John D. Walls, Alana, Madison and Brayden Erskine, and Makayla and Jaylen Bright; and one sister, Lucy Vivian Brooks of Tifton.
