Leo P. Gentili, Jr., 66, of Douglas formerly of Mansfield passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday May 27, 2011. He was the beloved husband of the late Jane E. (Carine) Gentili who died on February 18, 1998.
Born in Brockton, MA on October 8, 1944 he was a loving son of Theresa (Liberatore) Gentili of Mansfield and the late Leo P. Gentili, Sr.
A resident of Douglas for the past 5 years, he was a former lifelong resident of Mansfield and was a 1962 graduate of Mansfield High School. He served his country during the Vietnam Era as a member of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Leo was the proud owner of the former Plaza Beverage, Inc., a company he operated in the Foxfield Plaza in Foxboro for 30 years prior to retiring. Following retirement he worked as an Auctioneer at the Douglas Flea Market.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Mr. Gentili was quite knowledgeable on the subject of antiques and collectibles, and enjoyed attending and being a vendor at area flea markets.
His family was the focal point of his life and he treasured the times spent with grandchildren. Being a people person, Leo loved socializing with friends at local diners and enjoyed the music of Elvis Presley.
In addition to his loving mother he is survived by his devoted children Gina M. Iacomini and her husband David of Attleboro, Stacy L. Downey and her husband James, Sr. of Bar Harbor, Maine and Paul L. Gentili of Bellingham. The dear brother of Winnie Collins of Norton, Roberta Sharp of Attleboro and the late Patricia Crum, he is also survived by his cherished grandchildren James Downey, Jr. and twins Abby and Ava Iacomini. Mr. Gentili is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday June 1st at 8:00 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday May 31st from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Leo’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street ,Suite 2, Boston, MA 02115.
