Benoit H. “Ben” Hazebrouck, 88, of Post Rd., Warwick, died Saturday at home.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Henri and Rachel (Lamoureux) Hazebrouck. He was a resident of Woonsocket for most of his early life. He resided in Lincoln and North Smithfield until moving to Warwick in 1980.
During his youth on Park Ave. in Woonsocket Ben played pond hockey and served as an altar boy at Precious Blood Church.
He graduated from Assumption High School in Worcester in 1939 and was a Providence College graduate, Class of 1942.
Mr. Hazebrouck was a veteran of the Coast Guard.
Following his father’s career path, Ben chose to work in the textile trade. His initial employer was the French Worsted Co. where his father was General Manager. He then became owner of Brisbane Fabrics, Inc. in Glendale, RI and the President and Manager of Faustina Fabrics Inc. of Pawtucket.
Ben enjoyed traveling, camping, and family vacations. His home, which overlooked East Greenwich Cove and vessel moorings, was a source of joy. Traditional Jazz music was Ben’s passion; this lifelong passion for it led him to amass an extensive jazz music collection.
He is survived by his former wife Muriel (Choquette) Hazebrouck of Warwick, two sons, Henry B. Hazebrouck (& Elizabeth Gioumousis) of San Jose, CA, and David J. Hazebrouck of Glocester, two daughters Janine M. Hazebrouck of Ferndale, WA, and Louise A. Hazebrouck (& Steve Rome) of Brewster, NY. and six grandchildren, Garrett Hazebrouck, Annalise Scobey, Emily, Erica, and Jesse Rome, and Allison Hazebrouck. He was the brother of Lucette Shellenback of Chicago, IL. and the late Vincent and Francois Hazebrouck and Sr. Monique Hazebrouck SMSM. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Wednesday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 5-8 pm.
