Robert "Pete" Davenport, age 90, of Alpharetta, GA, formerly of Clarksville died peacefully Thursday May 26, 2011 at Ivy Hall Assisted Living in Alpharetta where he had resided the past three years. Pete moved to Georgia to be close to his loving daughter and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by the many close friends he had both in Georgia and Tennessee.
He was born September 30, 1920 in Montgomery County son of the late Robert Davenport and Louise Hooker Davenport. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alice Davenport; a brother, Clarence Davenport; and two sisters, Mildred and Doris Davenport.
Pete was owner and operator of Davenport's Market on Memorial Drive in Clarksville for sixty years. He was known for his kind heart and big smile. He received the Best Neighbor Award by the Leaf-Chronicle. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and served four years during WW II.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge #761 for fifty years. He loved cars and was a member of the Memory Lane Cruisers. He liked to collect many things such as clocks and coins and was a bee keeper. He loved his farm and because of his love for animals the family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Clarksville Humane Society, P.O. Box 51, Clarksville, TN 37041.
He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Bro. Steve Louder will be officiating at his service on Sunday at 1:00 PM at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 4 to 6 PM and on Sunday beginning at noon until the hour of the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Robbye Davenport Noonan and son-in-law, Carl Noonan, Alpharetta, GA; a brother, John Ed Davenport, Clarksville; and two grandchildren, Lauren and Bobby Noonan, both of Atlanta, GA.
