Obituary

James P. Brown, 71, of Orchard Meadows Drive, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at RI Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Idola M. (Dionne) Brown. They were married for 48 years.

Born in Waterbury, CT, a son of the late James and Alice (Lyons) Brown. He had lived in Smithfield and Bonita Springs, FL previously living in Warwick. Mr. Brown was a Marine Corps veteran.

Mr. Brown was an Executive Vice President of Cookson-America for 30 years before retiring. Prior to that he was President of A. J. Oster & Company. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Warwick Country Club and Highland Country Club.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His favorite pastimes were spending time with his grandchildren and enjoying his retirement in Florida. He loved the simple pleasures in life: laughing, singing, and dancing. He was kind and generous , and he will be sorely missed by the many people who loved him.

Besides his wife, he leaves his children, Patricia L. Brown of Smithfield, Pamela A. McKnight of Chagrin Falls, OH, Terri Anne LaPlante of North Smithfield and James M. Brown, RISP of Burrillville, sisters, Alice Colby of Plantation, FL and Kathleen Brennan of Pottstown, PA and his grandchildren, Elsa, Max, Will, Madeleine, Nathan, Maris, Grace, Riley and Chelsea. He was the brother of the late Peter, John and Rev. Vincent Brown.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday at 10am in St. Michael Church, 80 Farnum Pike, Smithfield. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation Thursday 4-7pm in the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
