Ruth Emmerson Catlett, 86, of 1911 North Main Street, died Monday, May 23, 2011 at Danville Regional Medical Center.
Born March 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Price Arnett Atkinson and Cordie Early Atkinson. She was first
married to Roscie Atkinson who predeceased her, and later married James Catlett, who also predeceased her. Ruth
was a very loving person who never met a stranger, and she loved everyone she met. Before retiring, she had worked for
Dan River, Inc. for over 40 years.
Mrs. Catlett is survived by one sister, Marie Swain Talley and her husband, Ronald, of Reidsville, NC; three nephews,
William "Billy" Atkinson of Pelham, Jon Swain of Reidsville and Robert "Bobby" Davis of Richmond; two nieces,
Susan Escue and her husband, Robbie of Pelham, and Sylvia Johnson and her husband, Danny, of Yanceyville;
Godson, Dustin Johnson of Yanceyville; several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers,William P. Atkinson and Sonny Atkinson;
two sisters, Regina A. Davis and Elizabeth Parsons, and one nephew, George Carey Swain, III.
Funeral services for Mrs. Catlett will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with
interment to follow in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 to 2:00 prior to the service.
