Andrew H. “Andy” Harper, 67, of Tallahassee, Florida, died Wednesday, January 28, 2004, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M., Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel, Tallahassee, with visitation held from 1 P.M. until the service at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. on Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Satilla Cemetery, Irwin County with Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 12 until 2 P.M. at Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla.
Mr. Harper was born November 14, 1936 in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Willis Harper and Alice Kilgore McDowell and was also preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Harper. He was a 1954 graduate of Irwin County High School and received his Bachelors degree from the University of Mississippi in Business Administration. Mr. Harper lived in Tallahassee for the past ten years, moving from Oxford, MS. He served in the United States Air Force. He retired from General Electric, where he worked on the first lunar Apollo and Saturn projects. He was a machinist in the physics department at the University of Mississippi for twenty years and was a machine-shop supervisor for the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State University. He was a member of Oxford University United Methodist Church in Oxford, MS.
Mr. Harper is survived by his wife of 23 years, Sandra Bailey Harper, Tallahassee, two stepdaughters, Stacey Taylor, Southaven, MS and Christy White, Oxford, MS; three brothers, Jerry Harper, Jimmy Harper and Danny Harper, all of Lax; one sister, Alicia Roberts, Lax; three grandchildren, Morgan Taylor, Jackson Taylor and Lindsey White.
