Obituary

Matilda Mae (Richards) Gaynor, age 91, formerly of Pleasant Street, Mystic, died Friday morning at Noble Horizons in Salisbury where she had been a resident since 1997.

Mrs. Gaynor was born in Mystic on March 28, 1912 the daughter of Mande and Madeline (Cotreaux) Richards. Raised in Mystic, she attended Broadway School and was a 1929 Graduate of Stonington High School.

She was employed as a secretary for 25 years at Davis Standard division of Crompton & Knowles before retiring in 1977.

Mrs. Gaynor was a former communicant of St. Patrick Church and the St. Mary Frances Circle, Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and reading and took great pride in her family.

Her husband, Paul J. Gaynor Sr. died June 22, 1979.

She is survived by her sons, Wayne M. Gaynor of Lakeville and Paul J. Gaynor Jr. of Big Pine Key, Fla., 4 grandchildren, Andrew Gaynor of Lakeville, Peter Gaynor of Albany, Dawn Gaynor of Durham, and Lynn Cripps of Pawcatuck, and a great-grandson, Billy Cripps.

She was predeceased by her two sons, Daniel B. Gaynor and Richard E. Gaynor, and her siblings, Paul, Walt, Edgar, and Peter Richards, Agnes Higgins, Helen Gilbert, and Jane Shackley.

Her family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 8:45-9:45am. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, Mystic at 10am. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
