Billy Joe Pitts, 63, of Ty Ty died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Larry Daughtry and Rev. Ronnie Howell will officiate with burial to follow in Ty Ty Baptist Church Cemetery. Chris Manaugh, David Heath, Ronnie Guess, Brock Alsobrook, Derek Montgomery and Brandon Montgomery will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Sumner, Wallace Montgomery, Steven Hendricks, Donald Smith, and the Men of Calvary Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Pitts was born on July 24, 1947 in Colquitt County and was the son of J. W. Pitts and Allie Nolan Pitts, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers; and one sister. He was a disabled veteran, having served in the United States Army in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW and a life-long member of Omega Church of God and Calvary Methodist Church.
Mr. Pitts is survived by his wife, Benita Johnson Pitts of Ty Ty; the mother of his children, Sue Pitts; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Kim Pitts of Alapaha and David and Lain Pitts of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Chris Manaugh of Tifton and Michelle and David Heath of Brookfield; one step-son, J. D. Montgomery of Nicholls; and two step-daughters and their spouses, Anita and Danny McCook of Tifton and Nina and Ronnie Guess of Ty Ty; one brother, J. T. Pitts of Poulan; six sisters, Opel Hines of Tifton, Betty Harris of Lenox, Jeannette Franklin of Omega, Pat Hendricks of Tifton, Donna Kay Crocker of Tifton and Bonnie Faye Collier of Adel; four grandsons, Brock, Payne, Devun and Chandler; three granddaughters, Ashley, Bailey and Christina; eight step-grandchildren, Derek, Brandon, Michael, Matthew, Katie, Kayla, Karrie, Elizabeth and Chad; one great-grandson, Myziah; and one of his loyal friends, Lloyd Moore.
