Betty Geneva Merritt Buchanan, age 73, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011 at her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Buchanan was born on January 9, 1938 in Coffee County, GA to the late Ira Russell and Pearlie Smith Merritt. Mrs. Buchanan was a homemaker. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Sims Funeral Home with interment following in the Rocky Creek Church Cemetery. Survivors include: son: David Buchanan, Douglas, GA; daughters: Dawn (Edison) Crosby, Willacoochee, GA; Tammie (Billy) Smith, Byronville, GA; brothers: Ralph Merritt, Fitzgerald, GA, John Merritt, Ambrose, GA; 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 21, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Sims Funeral Home. Sims Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
