Edward J. Dugan, 77, of Fairhaven died Thursday January 29, 2004 at his son's home in Fairhaven, surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of June M. (Gardner) Dugan; they had been married for 55 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Richard T. and Laura (St. Laurent) Dugan, he lived in Fairhaven for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church.
Mr. Dugan was formerly employed as a corrections officer at M.C.I. Walpole until his retirement. He later worked for Shawmut Bank as a safe deposit box administrator.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy with the 3rd Amphibious Division, and was a recipient of the Navy Action Combat Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater medal with 2 stars, the Philippine Liberation medal, the American Theater medal and the World War II Victory medal. He later served in the Coast Guard Reserve.He was a member and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Fort Phoenix Post 2892, and Past National Aide de Camp of the National Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, James M. Dugan, and his companion Karen Sousa, of Fairhaven, and Thomas S. Dugan, and his wife Jean, of Rochester; 3 daughters, Susan P. Leclair, and her husband Robert, of Fairhaven, Christine M. DaLuz, and her husband Gregory, of Bristol, RI, and Maureen Dugan Wilcox, and her husband Michael Wilcox, of Attleboro; a brother, Richard T. Dugan, Jr., of Fairhaven; a sister, Lillian Mangham of Taunton; a sister-in-law, Shirley Dugan of East Freetown; 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Paul Dugan, William Dugan and Thomas H. Dugan.

(Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Monday February 2, 2004 at 8:45 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, Fairhaven at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Saturday January 31, 2004 only 4-8 PM. There will be no visiting hours on Sunday. Burial with Military Honors will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
