Obituary

Worcester - Maureen Angela (Monahan) McLellan, 55, passed away at her home on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She leaves her loving and devoted husband of 5 years Daniel J. McLellan; her two daughters Ashley P. LeClair and her husband David of Saco, Maine, and Lindsey A. Berlin of Saco, Maine; her stepson Cpl. Jonathan D. McLellan US Marine Corps; grandchildren Madelyn P. Elie and Dakota LeClair of Saco, Maine and her former husband Gary H. Berlin also of Saco, Maine. She also leaves her three sisters, Kathleen Rouleau and her husband Leo, Patricia "Daisy" Monahan of Worcester, and Ruth "Pixie" Baker and her companion Gerald Devlin of Merrimac; her brother Edward W. Monahan and his wife Deborah of Worcester; her mother-in-law Dorothy McLellan of Auburn; sisters-in-law Lori and her husband Robert of Chelmsford and Joy and her husband Alcid of Northfield. Maureen also leaves many nieces, nephews, and friends. Her father-in-law John McLellan passed away in January of this year.

Maureen was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Edward W. and Ruth C. (Grady) Monahan. She graduated from South High School in 1973 and the David Hale Fanning Trade School Dental Assistant Program in 1974. After graduating, she joined the dental office of Darvish and Gallagher as a dental assistant. She resided in Saco, Maine for 15 years before returning to Worcester 7 years ago. Maureen was employed 14 years by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a claims supervisor covering offices in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Maine.

Besides her time with her grandchildren, she enjoyed traveling to the coast of Maine spending time at the ocean with her family and friends, cruising, and working in her garden.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Vijay Kasturi and his staff at the Oncology Clinic at UMass for the support and care that they provided to Maureen in her challenge to fight lung cancer.

Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Sunday, May 22, from 4-7 p.m. The funeral will be from Nordgren Memorial Chapel, Monday, May 23, with a 10:00 a.m. Mass in St. John's Church, 44 Temple Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UMass Memorial Foundation-Oncology Clinic, UMass Medicine Development Office, 333 South St., Shrewsbury MA 01545.
