Barbara Davis Barnhardt, 63, of Danville, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Duke University Hospital in
Durham after four months of declining health. Born in Danville on October 21, 1947, she was the daughter
of James Leonard Davis and Macie Rigney Davis who predeceased her. In November, 1972,
she married Ford Barnhardt, who survives her of the home. She was a long time active member of Third
Avenue Congregational Christian Church. She had worked at Danville Regional Medical Center for forty years
as a registered nurse in the operating room.
In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by two sons, Clarence M. Lee of Danville, and
Richard G. Barnhardt, of Richmond; Also, two daughters, Barbara Sue McNeely of Danville, and Sheila M. Jones,
of Richmond. She is also survived by her stepmother-in-law, Okie Davis, of Danville, an aunt, Verna Rigney,
of Brosville, and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Barnhardt will be held Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Third Avenue Congregational
Christian Church, with the Rev. Frederick Vicks officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday prior to the service. At other times
they will be at 1140 Old Mayfield Road.
